Our commitment to the community – we think beyond super

Over 70 years of listening and understanding means we’re looking out for you, your family and your community’s needs and wellbeing.

We support our staff to support the community by:

  • volunteering
  • fund raising events, and
  • special appeals.

Our Community Awareness Program sees our employees volunteer on work time to help out local charities and raise funds for special appeals close to their heart. As at October 2011 staff have raised over $40,000 for a number of local and national charities, with AUSCOAL Super often matching fundraising efforts dollar for dollar.

Recently we've raised funds for the following charities

  • Kayak4life – Mark Walsh aims to kayak the full length of the Murray River (2,400km) to raise funds for the NSW Cancer Council.
  • Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children.
  • NSW Guide Dogs Association.
  • Starlight Foundation.

Previously we've supported:

  • Be Brave and Shave – The Leukaemia Foundation. We had six participants from AUSCOAL Super.  The event included a public shave-off at our office for all employees to enjoy.
  • Hunter Homeless Connect Day. We had six participants from AUSCOAL Super volunteering on the day. Three executive managers from AUSCOAL Super participated in the Hunter Homeless Connect sleep-out to raise awareness for the homeless people in the Hunter area. Many donations were coordinated and collected, including clothes and food.
  • AUSCOAL Super entered a soccer team into the Hunter Homeless Connect soccer match.
  • Funds were raised for the Queensland Flood Victims, with eight staff members volunteering to assist in coordinating support in the local area for goods to be shipped to Queensland.

Lifeline

AUSCOAL Super assisted Lifeline in their annual book collection campaign.  We had a designated coordinator to collect books from staff members and facilitate delivery to Lifeline.

Movember

We launched our Corporate Fund Raising program with Movember. Twenty-three AUSCOAL Super Mo team members participated in this worthwhile program. All male senior managers participated to show their dedication to this cause. A number of staff followed this lead, demonstrating our giving culture.

AUSCOAL Super Mos raised a significant amount for the Movember cause. Weekly photos were posted to the staff intranet to provide visual progress checks of how our team members were looking with their new moustaches. At the end a ‘shave off’ was held in the staff lunch room, where staff members could donate to shave off their favourite moustache of the month. All staff were invited to attend and share in the fun!

Victorian fires

With the fires in Victoria, AUSCOAL Super employees conducted a donation appeal. This appeal was encouraged by management with a sizable sum donated by the company in addition to employee pledges.

Ongoing
